In Hong Kong, there are various kind of popular culture, including TV programmes, films, comics etc.

One of the mainstream entertainment is popular music, which nowadays often called as Cantopop.

In general, Cantopop means popular songs sung in Cantonese, while songs sung in other languages, even they are produced in Cantonese speaking regions, are not classified as Cantopop.

As Hong Kong is the major production centre of Cantopop since the 1950s, so the rise and fall of Cantopop is closely related to Hong Kong’s social, economic, cultural and historical development. And it can also act as a manifestation of Hong Kong identity and spirits
